The Technique – She's In The Glow https://shesintheglow.com Tue, 06 Feb 2018 15:28:21 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.9.4 This Skincare Line Has Never Failed Me (Ever) https://shesintheglow.com/tata-harper-holiday/ https://shesintheglow.com/tata-harper-holiday/#comments Thu, 15 Dec 2016 07:00:02 +0000 http://shesintheglow.com/?p=12067 read more]]> Magic happens when you find a skincare line you love. That’s what happened to me with Tata Harper. I first discovered her products about four years ago and became hooked on the serums and moisturizers. The brand was still somewhat under the radar at the time, but since then, the line has expanded to include cream blushes, body balms and hand creams. And, by the way, they’re all amazing.

Why do I love Tata Harper so much? Well for starters, I have met Tata many times now, and am even lucky to call her a friend. She is the best example of how her line really works. I mean, it’s truly hard to tell her exact age. Her skin is tight and supple so much so that she never really needs to wear makeup. The first time I actually tried Tata Harper skincare was at Exhale spa where Tata was giving mini facials. Once I got one of my own, I was hooked. Right then and there.

Considering trying the brand Yourself? Here is what you know.

Tata’s line is organic and filled with the most powerful ingredients, hence the hefty price tag. Everything is made right on her farm in Vermont, where she often invites editors and friends to experience the magic. She also uses 100% non-toxic 100% of the time. So this means that everything you put on your skin isn’t going to poison you. You’d be surprised – some of your favorite lines are filled with TONS of harmful chemicals. As I get older, I care about two things – results and clean ingredients that aren’t sabotaging my health. Another reason I love this line is because I can share it with my mom. Even though we are 30 years apart, we can still use the same line. It works for all ages.

Today, I wanted to share it with you. From her life-changing serums, to her new(ish) illuminating line (that eliminates the need for makeup). Her body balm gets rids of stretch marks and cellulite and her hand and eye creams are so lovely. Also her little aromatherapy line makes for the Best gifts. You really get addicted to those smells. Oh, and guess what?! Today and tomorrow, Tata’s whole site is 15% off, PLUS free two day shipping. There’s no better time than now to stock up on all your favorite gifts.

Annie’s Wedding Makeup Breakdown https://shesintheglow.com/annies-wedding-makeup/ https://shesintheglow.com/annies-wedding-makeup/#comments Wed, 05 Oct 2016 07:00:05 +0000 http://shesintheglow.com/?p=11983 read more]]> There are two things that you need to look for when choosing a makeup artist for your wedding. First, they need to be good listeners. I hate it when makeup artists disregard what you are saying and just “do their thing” because they are the professionals or whatever. No. You need to tell them exactly what you want or what you are looking for. Also, you should really do your own research and come to them with ideas and inspiration. And it’s their job to hear you and work with what you are saying.

Secondly, they need to be skilled. Your wedding is NOT the time to mess around with someone who isn’t capable of giving you what you want. You want to feel the prettiest that you have ever felt before in your life – otherwise your whole night is going to be off, because you will be thinking and saying to anyone will listen, “Do I look ok?” This is certainly not what you want.

I was lucky to find someone that I really loved, Jaclyn, who works for Charlotte Tilbury. We worked together to create my wedding look which was inspired by Black Swan. My dress was rather Black Swan-esque and my hair complemented the whole ballet look as well. I wanted Cate Blanchett SK-II-esque translucent skin, no blush (because I always feel like I look so “done”), stained matte lips and some sort of pink eye. I initially thought I wanted black eyes but in the end, I decided on something softer, more etherial and fairy.

This is exactly what we used to get the look. For more pictures from my wedding day, you can check under the hashtag #thebodmers.

The Quick-Fix for when Your Waxing Expert is on Maternity Leave https://shesintheglow.com/heres-how-to-get-a-bikini-wax-fast/ https://shesintheglow.com/heres-how-to-get-a-bikini-wax-fast/#comments Thu, 16 Jun 2016 07:00:52 +0000 http://shesintheglow.com/?p=11802 read more]]> One of the best local New York tips I’ve ever gotten came from friend and Glow Girl Sarah Hoover. She shared with me the hidden gem of the quick-fix waxing world: Benefit. It’s a true one-stop-shop. You can tint your lashes, tweeze your brows and manage your bikini situation. You can even get a spray tan. Amazing, right? Well, that’s not even the best part. During my last minute visits to the Soho location, I met Nicky, a true brow and bikini goddess. Shortly after I realized how insanely talented she was, she left Benefit to start her own private practice where she travels to the client’s home and even office. I love Nicky, and after seeing her I just felt so accomplished – and I never even needed to leave my apartment. All was well and good, until I realized that I was going to need to figure out how to handle my bikini situation while Nicky was away on maternity leave.

The Best Way to Handle Brow and Bikini Waxing During the SummerThe Best Way to Handle Brow and Bikini Waxing During the SummerI considered heading back on over to Benefit until she was back in business, but with all my travels and being so busy, I don’t always have time to get it together. Plus, I got so used to just handling everything at home. Enter: Completely Bare Ready, Set, Wax! Wax Strips Kit for Face, Bikini & Body. I know what you are thinking; I can’t wax myself at home. But yes you can and it couldn’t be easier, quicker and cost effective. The customizable sheets are so easy to use because there is no heating involved. You simply rip open the packaging, cut to the size you need and remove the adhesive. I love how easy they are to use anytime, anywhere to remove the shortest and most stubborn of hairs. They are also perfect for the summer when you find yourself in need of more frequent touch ups. Trust me on this one, girls, and thank me later.

The Best Way to Handle Brow and Bikini Waxing During the SummerPro tip: Anytime before you wax, always make sure to exfoliate first.

The Dewiest Cold Weather Skincare Guide https://shesintheglow.com/the-cold-weather-skincare-guide/ https://shesintheglow.com/the-cold-weather-skincare-guide/#comments Wed, 20 Jan 2016 07:00:29 +0000 http://shesintheglow.com/?p=10886 read more]]> There is no denying that the cold weather wreaks havoc on our skin, hair and nails. I experienced this firsthand after returning from my recent trip to Miraval in Arizona. After enjoying afternoon temps of 70 degrees, I was totally caught off guard by the freezing cold in New York. The next day I woke up with lips so chapped they were on the verge of bleeding. Gross.

Whether it was the travel, the cold weather or the climate change, this was clear proof that icy wintery weather can do crazy things to us. And it doesn’t stop with the lips. Chipped nails, splitting cuticles, dry skin and static hair are all symptoms of the severe weather changes that affect us all.

Winter Skincare Guide for Glowing SkinHere are a few things you can do to combat chilling temperatures.

1. Swap your nail oil for something even richer. Dior Créme Apricot Fortifying Cream for the Nails should really be reserved for bedtime use only because it’s so strong. Created in 1963, Dior’s “cult-favorite magic multi-tasker” encourages nail growth, improves nail strength, and conditions cuticles.

2. Add a face oil into the mix. There’s a common misconception that in the winter, we should swap our night creams and moisturizers for an oil. This is only partly true. For serious and long lasting moisturize mix an oil like with your existing cream. This duo protects, hydrates and repairs at the same time. Pai Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil is the B.O.M.B. A little goes a long way, so the bottle lasts forever, and it will never cause a breakout. It’s perfect for all skin types and I like it because it literally plumps my skin.

3. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturizer and never leave home with your “everything” balm. You can never have enough balms, am I right? Now is the time to use them like crazy. These are my favorites (and yes, I need all three) for my handbag, my desk and my bedside table respectively: Glossier Balm Dotcom, All You Need Is Me by True Organic of Sweden and Pommade Divine by Nature’s Remedy Balm.

4. Coat your feet in a salve. There’s a reason Weleda Skin Food is in every makeup artist’s kit. You can use it everywhere—on your elbows, dry patches and all over your feet.

5. Wash your face with a balm. Amanda Lacey’s Cleansing Pomade is simply the best. It’s made with Calendula Oil and other rich ingredients that soothe and gently exfoliate the skin. It also cleans your face like nothing else. Trust me, you will be addicted to this one.

6. Incorporate something blue into your skincare sitch. May Lindstrom’s Blue Cocoon Beauty Balm Concentrate is so good. The ultra hydrating concentrate melts into your skin and leaves your skin plumped and hydrated. You can even dab it on as an eye or lip treatment for a natural, yet glowy sheen. For something to use every day, Chanel’s Hydra Beauty Créme Riche is simply the best. I had always been a fan of the old-school Chanel Hydramax, which is why I was delighted when they expanded the line to include this. The formula features the moisturizing powers of camellia alba, the antioxidant powers of blue ginger and the nutritive benefits of camellia oil to give your skin the necessary tools to strengthen while restoring its natural radiance, suppleness and beauty.

7. Take an oil-based bath. Long baths and showers can actually be drying on your skin. So whenever you make time for a luscious detox bath, make sure to add plenty of oils. Instantly transport yourself to somewhere exotic with Coqui Coqui Coco Coco Bath Oil. It’s the most delicious and nourishing. Bonus tip: Add a huge dollop of coconut oil into the bath for even more moisture.

8. Add some liquid gold to those stressed out strands. Shu Uemura Essence Absolue Nourishing Oil protects, hydrates and even styles. It’s really the only styling treatment you need all winter long. It disappears into hair leaving it super soft and sleek. Tame down frizz and flyaways with this antioxidant-packed and beautifully scented camellia oil.
