I really believe that, when possible, it’s smart to incorporate natural and organic beauty into your routine during pregnancy. Since this month marks the beginning of my 2nd trimester, I decided to get down to business and share my latest routine with all of you. Whether you’re also expecting or just looking for some ultra-clean substitutes to rotate into your regimen, scroll for major inspiration.bella hadid by ben rayner for wonderland september / october 2015

Spacemasks Self Heating Eye Mask – I am obsessed with these! Each single pouch contains a self-heating eye mask that basically transports you to another dimension. These babies relieve relieve eye strain and restore a restful glow. Pro tip: I love using these when I fly!

8 Faces – finally got my hands on this! 8 Faces is an all-in-one balm that is truly one of a kind. Made with Amla Berry, a super-fruit rich Vitamin C, this transformative solid oil boosts collagen, fights free radicals and brings a fresh glow to the skin. I absolutely adore the smell. The grapefruit, geranium and lavender blend is super calming. I use it right after masking to lock in the moisture.

Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil – I am using this oil just about everywhere. Jessica Richards of Shen Beauty got me really into Rosehip and I’ve been addicted ever since. I add a few drops to my moisturizer and a few drops into my stretch mark oil. This beauty oil is totally clean and clinically proven to improve skin evenness, add brightness and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Patyka Intensive Moisturizing Mask – I popped into the coolest French beauty store Oh My Cream! and asked them what the best facemask is. This was their answer. This French brand is totally new to me, but I have been super happy with the results of this intense mask. It’s the kind of mask that you can use bi-weekly to plump and firm the skin. Highly recommend.

David Mallett Hair Serum #DM027 – another recent Paris find. David himself recommended this product to me (right after he told me that I remind him of Jennifer Connelly!!!). The serum is great for girls with not-so-thick hair. Apply to wet hair post-shampoo and conditioner. It’s also a dream for taming flyaways.

Tata Harper Crème Riche – I honestly don’t think there is a better nighttime moisturizer out there. If you do, can you please let me know what it is? This super rich cream is formulated with sixteen sources of hydration and twelve sources of age-defying botanicals that lift and plump the skin. Hyaluronic and essential fatty acids help lock in moisture for an instantly soft, supple, youthful appearance. Pro tip: make sure to really massage the product in your fingers before applying it to the face. (You know, it’s the same with La Mer.)

RMS Beauty Myth Eye Polish – I just picked up this baby in Paris last weekend and how was I living without this for so long??? UGH it’s good. It’s flesh colored so it gives the lid a slightly darker, more dramatic look. It feels a little 90s in the best way ever and gives that wet look too. I use it without any liner both day and night.

The Nue Co. Plant Protein + Gut Food – I was devastated to learn that the Clean Program shakes were a no-no during pregnancy. I emailed them myself and they said that Vitamin A levels were too high. During my 1st trimester and pre-pregnancy, I was following a strict TCM diet and so I gave up smoothies. Starting this year I am back on them and NOTHING makes me happier to get out of bed in the morning. This pea/ hemp mix has been the perfect replacement.

Tata Concentrated Brightening Essence – Pre-pregnancy, I was addicted to the SK-II Facial Essence Treatment (who knows maybe I’d still be using it but I literally just ran out). I used it for years and I still swear by it. In place of the SK-II version, I starting using Tata’s. I’ve been using it for about 3 weeks and it too is incredible. The lightweight essence is infused with Alpha and Beta Hydroxy technology and gives the complexion a toned and refined look, helping minimize the appearance of dark spots for a more even, luminous glow. It also boosts the performance of whatever serum I’m using. Need I say more?

Anything by Dr. Barbara Sturm…ok, her Glow Drops – Ok, so I know that this isn’t technically clean, BUT, I did watch Dr. Sturm apply these products onto her very own child and she used all her own products on herself when pregnant. And if anyone knows what is in them and the effects of this, it’s Dr. Sturm. Im going to take her word and incorporate her Glow Drops into my routine for added dewiness. It’s something I could really use a little more of right about now (hello, pale me). The point of her newest product is to transform and revitalize tired, dull skin and restore its radiance. Light reflecting pigments instantly create a visible youthful radiance and even cut out irregularities in complexion. I am mixing a few drops in with my serum and applying all over my face, eye area and neck. Voila.

The Clean Alternative to Dior Lip Glow https://shesintheglow.com/the-clean-alternative-to-dior-lip-glow/ https://shesintheglow.com/the-clean-alternative-to-dior-lip-glow/#comments Mon, 23 Oct 2017 14:48:52 +0000 http://shesintheglow.com/?p=12300 read more]]> My weakness? Dior. Lip. Glow. Ever since Annie introduced me to the soft, pout-plumping formula, I have been absolutely hooked. It’s the ideal balance of lipstick and lipgloss – not too dry, not too moist and leaves the most delicate trace of color. The only problem is, it’s not exactly clean.

I know, beauty routines are never perfect. 100% nontoxic is tough to achieve, especially if you wear makeup. But when it comes to something you’re applying to your lips all day long, it’s wise to go organic. Just think about it – what’s on your lips normally ends up in your stomach. Would you want to eat regular lipstick? I don’t think so.

Since I’m a big believer in having your cake and eating it too, I set out on a mission to find the healthy DLG. (I know that metaphor didn’t exactly work there, but let’s just go with it). I can’t lie. It wasn’t easy. I spent weeks scouring the shelves of clean beauty havens in NYC. Most things I tried just didn’t cut it. They were either too dry or too creamy, two characteristics that just won’t do for this kind of lip essential.

I was about to give up my search, until I found Henne Organics while browsing a CAP Beauty in the West Village. CAP is one of my favorite beauty stops. They always have the latest and greatest in gross-free beauty, plus the vibe is just so good. In other words: I should have known they’d have what I was looking for.

So, back to Henne. Here’s what’s up in a nutshell… It’s an American-made, female-run brand inspired by the minimalism of Scandinavia. The line of lip tints comes in 4 colors (and they are all conveniently sold online at Amazon right here): Intrigue (dark red), Bare (nude), Azalea (pink) and Coral (self-explanatory, no?). I am partial to the Coral, since it most closely resembles the orangey-pink of my beloved DLG. It’s not an exact copy, of course, but it sure does make me feel a little less bad when I go to apply it 10+ times a day. Do you have a favorite all-natural lip go-to? Let us know in the comments!

In case you’re a new reader, my Glow Guide series is a curated monthly roundup of my favorite beauty products. The focus changes month to month, depending on the season and what’s trending. In the spirit of back to school, I figured I start it up again just in time for the fall.

I am still feeling skincare over makeup, and can slap on my daytime makeup in less than 5 minutes. I am addicted to essential oils and keep little bottles of them on me at all times. I have just switched to Dr. Barbara Sturm cream just in time for the cold and am using her super-rich body cream as well.

I discovered a new cheek and lip tint in the most perfect (and totally universal) tone and I am really into a red eye shadow situation for evenings when I want to look a little vampy. What else… Oh, perfumes and candles! Fall is all about finding your scent and creating a warm, cozy place to come home to. Read on for the full September beauty edit of the best products to try for the season ahead.

The only beauty products you need this summer are… https://shesintheglow.com/summer-beauty-2017/ https://shesintheglow.com/summer-beauty-2017/#comments Mon, 19 Jun 2017 07:00:19 +0000 http://shesintheglow.com/?p=12256 read more]]> When it comes to summer skin (and pool party attire!), less is certainly more.

Instead of covering it all up, aim for a natural glow. Enhance your best features and subtly disguise your problem areas. To do this, all you need are a few essentials.

Invest in a summer perfume, a new lip gloss and fun convo-starting sparking earring. You can put away (for now) your heavy eye shadows, crimson nail polishes and your contouring creams in favor of a light translucent powder, a skin perfecting anti-aging mist (that can go on-the-go) and of course a luminizing SPF. These are the products you need for the warm weather season ahead.

Bobbi Brown Gel Liner

This eyeliner doesn’t budge, even in the balmiest of summer nights.

Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector

This corrector creates a soft, diffused radiance that evens and brightens your skin tone. Use on top of your concealer. This was a tip was one of my besties.

Dyson Hairdryer

The is THE ultimate hairdryer. Every girl needs it because it will forever change your hair styling game. It’ll leave your locks smooth, not stringy.

Elizabeth and James Nirvana Perfume Oil

This rollerball (one that a lot of my editor friends wear) is the perfect little pick-me-up to keep on your body at all times. Smell like peony and tender musk.

Gypsy Water Hair Perfume

One spritz of Byredo’s hair perfume will last all day – the scent subtly diffuses as you move, which is perfect for summer strolls. This fragrance is an uplifting, slightly woody blend of juniper berries and incense with a base of vanilla and sandalwood.

Tom Ford Fleur de Portofino Eau de Parfum

This scent was inspired by the abundant white flowers of the Mediterranean White Acacia tree. Think: Calabrian Bergamot, Sicilian Lemon and Tangerine. At first, it’s a light mix of citrus and florals, then it transitions to a comforting vanilla and honey base. This is my go-to summer scent.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Enamored Hi-Shine Nail Lacquer, Fluorescent Beige 142

Fluorescent Beige is a soft pink hue with rich mauve undertones and an iridescent finish that creates that wet look… like you just stepped out of the pool.

Chanel Nail Polish, Pirate

The newly renovated 5-free formula actually improves the quality of your nails. Pirate is a Chanel original and is “the only red that matters,” according to Jess King.

La Mer Soft Fluid Foundation SPF 20

Two of my friends had this on over the weekend and it gave them the prettiest and glowiest complexion. It’s super light, covers redness and sunspots and contains the brand’s famous “Miracle Broth.” This foundation leaves your pores refined and your imperfections virtually gone, while SPF and antioxidants help protect your newly flawless skin.

The only beauty products that you need this summer are...Herban Essentials Assorted Essential Oil Towelettes

Keep em in your car, beach bag, on your bathroom counter or in your kids’ bedrooms. These all-natural towelettes clean up the stickiest of fingers and the dirtiest of faces.

Sanitas Skincare Brightening Peel Pads

Recommended by the women of Dangene, so you know it’s good. They’re great if you suffer from acne, eczema, rosacea or just want sparkling skin. These super easy-to-use pads are made with this perfect cocktail of acids: Lactic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Salicylic Acid and witch hazel.

RMS Beauty Champagne Rose Luminizer

RMS’s newest luminizer is like the original but this time with a blush-pink champagne tint. It’s avant-garde and rosy.

Zara Pearly Strappy Sandals

They look just like the Chanels. Just trust me, you will get 1000 compliments.

Tatcha Water Cream

This oil-free, anti-aging water cream releases a burst of skin-improving Japanese (so you know they mean business) nutrients that help you achieve pore-less-looking skin. Once applied, you skin is left with the most beautiful sheen!

Sachajuan Hair Cleansing Cream

By now, you should already understand our obsession. Read about it here.

Bite Lip Pencil

Finally, a lip pencil that matches the exact color of your lips. I like to fake a better pout with shade 010.

Coqui Coqui Beeswax Candle Coco-Coco

The milky coconut fragrance, infused into the black beeswax of this hand-poured candle is soft and sensual, with a subtle, bitter, green edge. Think sexy summer nights.

Eres Strapless Bathing Suit

This is one of the most classic Eres suits and it’s truly the most flattering. I always want to put on. You instantly feel chicer. The problem is that I want one in every color.

Dr. Barbara Sturm Sun Drops SPF 50

This liquid sun umbrella feels more like a lotion and is this summer’s lip, hand and eye MUST.

The beginner’s guide to day makeup https://shesintheglow.com/day-makeup-101/ https://shesintheglow.com/day-makeup-101/#comments Mon, 08 May 2017 13:25:28 +0000 http://shesintheglow.com/?p=12227 read more]]> Before dragon brows, contouring or self-tanning, there is one look that every girl and woman needs to understand: natural, easy day makeup. I’d considered it the hallmark of my look. A little concealer, a powder to set and prevent the oily look, a pink or clear glossy full pout — I opt for this vibe each and every day. It’s an approach all my girlfriends prefer too. We’re constantly sharing tips, from the products we’re obsessing over to the tricks that make our lives easer. Even for girls who are not total beauty addicts, this article is for you.

I thought it was about time to share what I’ve learned and practiced over the years with you. Some of my current faves are new and some are old. Consider this list your ultimate cheat sheet to no-fuss day (to night) makeup. These are the 8 essential makeup products that every girl should take for a spin…Easy Day Makeup

Primer – This is the barrier between your skincare and your makeup. Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Anti-Aging Primer is my newest and my most favorite discovery. The whole point of this tiny tube is to enhance the look of makeup while caring for your skin. It’s enriched with antioxidants, Hyaluronic Acid and Pearl Pigments that give you the perfect glow.

Concealer – It All. Starts. Here. I consider this one the most important – if not the most important – of all the makeup products. Always look for a formula with a natural finish. Concealers can be heavy, cakey and dry. Steer clear of these. Go for something lightweight. For me, I switch between RMS “Un” Cover-up and Omorovicza’s Mineral Concealer with Vitamin C.

Mascara – I’m really into thick, bushy lashes and only apply mascara at the base of my lashes. I like to make the lash look full as opposed to long. This leaves me with a cool French girl vibe. Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir mascara delivers just this.

Eye Brow Pencil – This is essential for filling in holes and perfecting the shape of your brows. Bold brows (more on achieving that here) are essential to pulling this entire fresh-faced look off. I still can’t find anything better than Surratt’s refillable brow tool.

Eye Brow Brush – After filing in your brows, brush them up and out. This ups the fullness factor and gives you an effortless finish. Boy Brow is the best. We all know it.

Eye Liner – I love a thin liquid line during the day. It’s just so chic – and also French. I like Tom Ford Eye Defining Pen because one side has a micro brush for super easy to manage application and oh, Maybelline’s version which is also one of the best.

Setting Powder – This keep you from looking greasy without compromising on your lit-from-within-glow. It will also make all of your makeup last longer. RMS makes a lovely version and it comes in clear or tinted versions for a hint of color.

Lip Balm – Dry lips are just a no no. Enough said. I discovered the BEST balm you guys by Image Skincare. It legit looks like I got lip injections and it tastes delicious and doesn’t leave any of that weird taste. All I can say is this is best world’s best lip balm. For something matte and for a little color, Dior Matte Lipstick in Classic is my favorite and it’s what I am wearing in these pics.

Hygge: The Nordic Trend That Will Take Your Beauty Routine to the Next Level https://shesintheglow.com/hygge-and-scandinavian-beauty/ https://shesintheglow.com/hygge-and-scandinavian-beauty/#comments Tue, 18 Apr 2017 07:00:05 +0000 http://shesintheglow.com/?p=12217 read more]]> What in the hell is Hygge? According to my new favorite book, “Hygge” is not so easy to define. You feel it. Hygge has been called a number of things, “the art of creating intimacy,” the “absence of annoyance,” or the “coziness of the soul.” I can get down with these things right? Right. Think: perfect lighting, cozy wool socks, a thunderstorm and a crackling fire. It’s about the atmosphere and the experience. The Little Book of Hygge is written by the CEO of the Happiness Research Institute, headquartered in Copenhagen. In the book, he explains Hygge and reveals the Danish Secrets to Happy Living. It’s no surprise that Denmark, Norway always top the list of the world’s happiest countries, year after year. Scandinavians just do everything cooler and cozier. From fashion and beauty to architecture and home design, many of my favorite designers and lines are from the land of the blond and beautiful.

Whether you want to give your living room that Hygge aesthetic, or you want to simplify your beauty routine, these are the best Scandinavian beauty products for you. Think: clean, quality ingredients and minimalist-chic packaging. Get some Nordic vibes in your life. You’ll be so glad you did.

SKANDINAVISK CANDLES

Lighting and candles are two of the main Hygge hallmarks and this smart Danish candle line nails it. My favorite scent is even named Hygee and mixes fireplace-esque elements with rose petals, mint, and strawberry cake. Cozy, right? They are sold online at the Finnish Design Shop which I also love for home decor. I just bought this and this.

VERSO

Straight up addicted to this WHOLE line. The sleek exterior alone practically screams Scandinavian design, but it’s the potent dose of retinol housed inside that I’m really interested in. The line’s claim to fame is minimizing fine lines and boosting collagen production. It’s all totally non-irritating, so even those with sensitive skin can partake. My top picks are the Super Face Serum, the Super Eye Serum and the Reviving Eye Mask with Retinol 8.

BYREDO

Byredo dominates the luxe perfume market for its culty-cool fragrances, hand cream and candles. The scents are never overtly feminine but always ooze sex appeal. My picks are Gypsy Water (duh), Rose of No Man’s Land and Mojave Ghost.

REN

I have been using the Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask for over 10 years. Like many Scandanavian beauty brands, Ren is clean. This mask is free of parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances/dyes, and petrochemicals. Lactic and Glycolic acid work together to leave your skin bright, happy and tight, without a hint of irritation. Perfection, no?

ESTELLE & THILD

Estelle & Thild’s products are made of super luxurious ingredients. Everything is free from pesticides and toxic residues and are certified organic by EcoCert. My picks are the BioCare Bio Pregnancy Oil and Biodefence Multi-Nutrient Youth Oil.

RUDOLPH

A new find for me is Rudolph, a collection of exclusive beauty products, embodying pure luxury and enhanced by active ingredients that help nurture and care for your skin. Developed and produced in Denmark. Isn’t the packaging pretty too? My favorite are the body products, like the Acai Body Balm Limited Edition which is divine.

SACHAJUAN

When you want really good hair, Sachajuan is the answer. I love the Ocean Mist Volume Shampoo and Conditioner because they are the secret to super full-bodied locks. Designed to rebuild, plump and fortify each fiber, this repairing formula creates volume and leaves your tresses with a healthy bounce.

SJÄL

Each product in the själ range is charged with precious minerals including gold, silver, copper, platinum and germanium in both liquid and solid form. Known as electro-stimulants, these minerals function as semi-conductors, increasing cellular productivity, performance, repair and penetration. I am really into crystals, so it’s no surprise that this line is one of my favorites. The Kashmir Saphir Perfecting Mask calms redness, oxygenates and plumps. It’s one of my newest must-haves.

5 Things I Bought in Paris https://shesintheglow.com/5-things-i-bought-in-paris/ https://shesintheglow.com/5-things-i-bought-in-paris/#comments Wed, 05 Apr 2017 06:14:18 +0000 http://shesintheglow.com/?p=12203 read more]]> I recently spent a little less than 48 hours in Paris. It was a super quick trip, but the perfect little excursion. It was so easy to get there from Zurich. There’s a train that takes you directly from the center of Zurich to the center of Paris. Between lunch at Clover Grill and dinner at L’Ami Louis I didn’t have time for much exploring, but I did carve out time for a few important stops: Colette and Biologique Recherche.

Colette is always a good place for beauty research. The beauty section isn’t big, but they carry some of my favorite lines as well as a few I had never seen. I am not super familiar with Edward Bess, for instance, but the pot of royal blue jelly caught my eye. The muti-tasking lip balm/eye gloss/blush, looks blue but actually turns pink upon contact with the skin. It’s magic.

Then I spotted the little corner of Joelle Ciocco. I am so intrigued by this brand! The Line in New York carries it and Clémence of Beauty and Well Being also swears by it. My attention was immediately drawn to the apricot-colored jar of Blossom Ceraxe. I just had to have it. It’s a super rich ointment that smells like orange blossoms. It’s made of essential oils like Mimosa and Damascus Rose and is super rich in fatty acids to repair skin and boost elasticity. The texture is ridiculous.

After Colette, I walked down to the Biologique Recherche lab where I got down to business with P50. (I wrote ALL about my findings here.) I picked up a bottle of P50’s latest launch for hyperpigmention, as well as one of their best oxygenating masks. I am already hooked, and have been using it every day since. It keeps my skin so plump and hydration.

The last stop on the beauty train was at Christophe Robin. I got a much needed haircut — just a trim — stocked up on my favorite hair thickener, the Instant Volumizing Mist with Rosewater. You guys, this stuff is the best AND it smells like roses. Plus, it was cheaper than the US versions, so I felt so lucky.

Have you ever been to Paris? What are some of your favorite French beauty essentials? Tell me everything in the comments!

How Switzerland Has Changed My Skincare Routine https://shesintheglow.com/achieve-alpine-rose-glow/ https://shesintheglow.com/achieve-alpine-rose-glow/#comments Fri, 10 Mar 2017 07:00:14 +0000 http://shesintheglow.com/?p=12170 read more]]> I found it no surprise at all that in Switzerland, skincare is the priority and makeup is practical, modern and minimalist. Natural and clean products are at the heart of the minimal movement and simplified beauty routines and multi-functioning products meet the demands of Switzerland’s classic, chic and low maintenance driven vibe.

Since moving here only a few months ago, I’ve felt inspired to switch things up in my beauty routine…a little less makeup and a little more skincare. I’ve been lucky enough to spend the past few weekends up in St. Moritz, where I took in the crisp mountain air and channeled my inner athlete. The whole experience made me want to bring the invigorating freshness of the mountain air to my everyday regiment. The air in the Alps (and even here in Zurich) is just better — when you breathe you can really feel your lungs expand. The air is of course dryer here than it was in New York, so in adjusting my skincare routine, I have been trying to keep things extra hydrated. I have also become re-obsessed with oils — I’m talking essential oils to be more precise. If you’ve been watching my Instagram stories than you have seen how next level my oil addiction has become. It’s kinda out of control. How Switzerland has changed my beauty routine How Switzerland has changed my beauty routine

Ok…so in order to bring some of this alpine magic into my regular routine, I added these stellar products to my beauty line-up. And the results have been excellent. Whether you’re living in a chilly climate or simply want to add a little Swissness to your own skincare, here’s what I suggest trying out:

Omorovicza Queen of Hungary Mist – Spritz all over your face and neck, all day, every day.

Und Gretel Pressed Powder – Organic, cute and compact, this puppy now travels with me wherever I go. It’s the perfect balance to RMS Living Luminizer. I am now using both of these every day, duh.

Susanne Kaufmann Enzympeeling Enzyme Peel – She’s like the Tata Harper of Europe and this product revives my skin. My girls at Beauty Care turned me onto this line…

Pommade Divine Nature’s Remedy Balm – Ultimately best to use on chapped lips, cuticles, cracked heels and dry patches of skin or problems with skin like eczema, psoriasis and even minor skincare injuries like bruises, cut and burns.

Skin Design London Alpine Rose Glow Illuminating Treatment The Cult Créme – This is a new line for me, and this cream is the B.O.M.B. I bought at Wheaton in Berlin.

Vintner’s Daughter Active Botanical Serum – An oldie but a goodie. Most of my friends agree that this is the oil to end all other oils.

Rodin Lip Balm – Nobody does packaging quite like Rodin, and this balm gives off the perfect pouty pink.

* Obsession alert: I am adddicted to these Young Living oils and you can buy them here. I got involved in the line thanks to my sister Kate and my since forever friend Taylor. I mix a few drop of these three and combine them with my moisturizer for the best. skin. ever. LMK if you have any questions…I am working on an essential oil story now…

How to walk off an international flight feeling fresh and dewy https://shesintheglow.com/walk-international-flight-feeling-fresh-dewy/ https://shesintheglow.com/walk-international-flight-feeling-fresh-dewy/#comments Fri, 20 Jan 2017 10:40:17 +0000 http://shesintheglow.com/?p=12117 read more]]> There have been countless articles written on the subject of travel beauty, but nothing compelling enough for me – well not yet. As someone who truly travels on six and seven hour flights quite often, I can honestly say that I have my en flight kit down to a t. Part of the secret, and as Into the Gloss recently concurred, is the prep that you do before the flight. This is how it goes (for me).

AT HOME (PRE-FLIGHT)

Take a real shower. Not that half-a** kind where you only wash what’s necessary. No I’m talking the real deal. Do a full body scrub using Earth Tu Face Salt Scrub on semi-dry skin. Wash your hair with something awesome, like Christophe Robin’s Purifying Scrub with Sea Salt followed by Robin’s Volumizing Conditioner. Shave your legs. You are going to feel great, trust me. Then slap on something really nourishing like May Lindstrom’s The Good Stuff. It’s totally organic and all natural and smells like cocoa. It’s my latest body addiction. I will also blow dry my hair, so that I feel prettier.

BUT FIRST…WIPES!

The first thing that I do once I get settled in my seat is to whip out my wipes and wipe down the arm rests, the cushion area behind my head and neck and any other place that I am likely to touch. Then using another clean wipe, cleanse your face, neck and hands. Simple Skincare and Josie Maran both make great and inexpensive wipes. I like to make sure the wipes are clean and not filled with chemicals, because I really like to use them liberally.

SKIN

On a clean face, spray something. I like SK-II’s Mid-Day Essence Spray. You get all the Japanese pitera benefits but in the easy-to-use spray form. For those of you with no shame like me, use SK-II’s Facial Treatment Mask and just leave it on until all of the moisture has absorbed onto your skin. When you take it off, you can just pat the product into your face, and any excess (especially around the neck) can be whipped off with your handy wipes. There really isn’t anything else better. Otherwise, pop on a clear and more discrete mask like Laurel Organics Honey Berry Enzyme Mask for 10-20 minutes. Wipe it off using one of your handy wipes. I also keep travel size skincare serums and moisturizes and I am always switching them up. I’ll use Tata’s Serum and then I’ll slap a pea-sized amount of One Love Organics Wonder Balm One. Love Organics makes a great eye cream, and it’s super nourishing and compact – making it ideal for travel. I really love that one.

HAIR

I like the Tangle Tease brush because its super small, and it doesn’t rip out my hair. So give your hair a good brush, why not. Just don’t freak out your neighbor. 😉

HANDS

I am addddicted to Weleda’s Skin Food Hautcreme for my hands. It’s goopy and thick, so your only need a little bit. But it moisturizes like nothing else. I randomly saw it at the grocery store here in Zurich, and now I can’t stop using it. I even keep one in my car.

SPIRIT

Bring on some essential oils. I feel essential oils are this world of their own. It’s kind of like their own club. Once you get into them, you become addicted (kinda like crystals) and you can’t leave home or anywhere without them. The cool thing is that there is an oil for every situation. On the plane, I will roll Tata Harper’s Aromatic Stress Treatment on my neck, pulse points and on the palms of my hands and breath in deeply 3 to 5 times. This really helps relax my mind. More on essentials oils coming soon.

MAKEUP

Let’s face it, everyone likes to arrive feeling concealed. I will apply a bit of RMS Beauty’s “Un” Concealer, Living or Magic Luminizer and Magic Mixer and Tata Harper’s clear Be True Balm to my lips and lids (I trick I learned backstage at NYFW). On my brows, Glossier’s Boy Brow.

COMPRESSION SOCKS

Yes, this is a real thing. This is if you don’t want your legs to swell up like a balloon. And it works. I buy mine here.

Right before I moved to Zurich, I met with a fellow expat, Clémence von Mueffling. The French beauty is a professional who has an amazing track record in the industry. Her resume boasts names like Clarins and Dior, but once you know her, this comes as no surprise. She was simply following in the family footsteps.

Both Mueffling’s mother and grandmother were beauty editors at THE French Vogue. Now she lives with her husband and twins in New York and is the Founder & Editor of newly launched beauty site Beauty and Well Being. She’s got a wealth of beauty knowledge that’s filtered through the lens of her classic French POV. During our meeting, I legit wanted to ask her one million questions, but of course I tried to contain myself.

Lucky for me, she was kind enough to spill her well kept secrets. You’re going to want to savor this one, girls. Here is my interview with the ever so sweet Clémence.

Glow Girl Clémence von Mueffling Glow Girl Clémence von MuefflingWhat are the French more into, clean or organic?

In France, each neighborhood has its own café, bakery and pharmacy. So at a young age you start to buy your skincare products from pharmacists. These are usually very ‘clean’ pharmaceuticals brands that are super effective and not too expensive. This is how we start good habits by buying ‘clean’ beauty products.

Glowing skin or matte?

The older I get, the more I want some glow!

As beauty editors, we are able to try so many different brands and products. What skin products or brands do you always come back to?

Avène, La Roche-Posay, Bioderma, A-Derma, Esterderm for Sun protection, Joëlle Ciocco, Clarins, Embryolisse and Filorga.Glow Girl Clémence von MuefflingGlow Girl Clémence von MuefflingWhich American beauty brands would you consider your favorites?Aerin, Supergoop!, Soapwalla Kitchen, Rahua, SkinCeuticals, Kiehl’s.

The French are known for being really into scents. Tell me about your favorite yummy smelling perfumes, body oils and shower gels.

Just yesterday I used the Mediterranean Honeysuckle Body Cream by Aerin. It has the nicest fragrance that remained all day. It reminded me of the summer and its shimmering beaches.

I love body oils too, usually in the evening after I shower. Some of my favorites include: Joëlle Ciocco, Soapwalla body oil, Nuxe and the incredible Leonor Greyl Huile Secret de Beauté.

I always have Clarins Eau Dynamisante, which I use like a cologne. It has been a staple in my bathroom for 20 years!

For shower gels, depending on my mood, I will use Dr Bronner’s shower gel with the Almond scent. When I need to be very energized I use Clarins Tonic Body Oil, and when I want to feel glamorous I use Frederic Malle Eau de Magnolia’s shower gel.

What are your favorite skin devices for at home use?

I have been faithful to Nu Skin for years. Both my mother and grandmother use it too! This at-home spa treatment revives and invigorates your skin, and smoothes lines and wrinkles.

A few days ago I was introduced to Foreo’s LUNA, a Facial Cleansing Brush & Anti-Aging Device.

Glow Girl Clémence von MuefflingWhere do you go for facials?

I go to Renew Spa in NY as well as Caudalie Spa.

Do you believe in botox/fillers?

I believe in non-invasive techniques, such as micro current.

Who is your dermatologist?

He is in Paris… but I try to see him twice a year! His name is Philippe Simonin.

What is your skincare routine?

A toner in the morning, some Avène thermal water and an eye contour (these days I am trying BioEffect). Depending on the ‘mood’ of my skin, I may or may not use a serum, then a moisturizer such as Caudalie, Filorga or Avène. I will use an SPF only if I know that I will be in the sun.

In the evening I like to double cleanse. It is my relaxing moment. I use products with lovely textures and scents. Such as Joelle Ciocco cleansing milk, Tata Harper cleansing oil, or de Mamiel cleansing balm.

Then I use a micellar lotion and my Avène thermal water. Sometimes I just finish with that spritz of water if my skin feels hydrated enough. In the winter I may feel the need to add a cream such as Nuxe Crème Fraiche or an oil such as Marisa Berenson’s prickly pear oil. These days I am loving a night serum by Bio Effect.

Is that Mason Pearson brush all that it’s cracked up to be?

My mother would always buy a Mason Pearson for my sister and me. And I have to say that there is no equivalent in terms of quality. They are expensive, but so worth the price. Clean them regularly and you will keep them for years!

For hair care I love Christophe Robin, David Mallet and Leonor Greyl. I also use Rahua and sometimes Klorane or Furturer.

Glow Girl Clémence von Mueffling Glow Girl Clémence von MuefflingWhat are some of the most important lessons that you learned from your mom and grandmother?

To be feminine at all times! And the older you get, the more disciplined you have to be with your beauty and wellness routine.

What is your definition of beauty?

Beauty comes from a woman’s femininity and elegance. It is also the glow that comes from her skin, her smile.

Let’s talk makeup. What are your essentials?

By Terry for foundation, Guerlain for blushes and YSL for the eyes!Glow Girl Clémence von Mueffling Glow Girl Clémence von MuefflingWhat products are currently in your handbag?

Aerin’s rose hand cream, a Bioderma lip balm, Eau de Magnolia perfume in its traveling size, a nail file and a Shiseido Pureness compact blush. What skincare products give you the best life-changing results?

These days I have been very impressed with Biologique Recherche Lotion P50 (despite the not-so-nice smell), Bio Effect night Serum and Marisa Berenson’s face oil.

For better skin texture, which products would you recommend?

More important than products, I would recommend a good cleansing routine, as well as regular skin massages and a healthy diet.

#1 beauty secret is… the face massage.

Tell me a little about your diet and skincare routine…

My diet is a very simple, balanced diet. I still love my croissants, and I eat tons of dark chocolate every day. However, I did stop eating processed foods and sodas and I have become a ‘flexitarian.’ According to the author of the ‘Omnivore’s Dilemma,’ Michael Pollan, it means someone who does eat some meat – but only sometimes.

Beauty trend that you completely dislike?

Harsh skin treatments such as Fraxel and Dermabrasion.Glow Girl Clémence von Mueffling
